OUR PROCESS

At the Music Tech Foundation, we aim to tap into a person’s native passion for music, art, and communication and nurture it into science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) skills that translate to meaningful careers. Most music and media production learning takes place through hands-on training and mentorship. We know personally that mastering the techniques and technologies of music and media production can have a powerful effect on a person’s confidence and creativity. We accomplish this through an organic process aimed at slow and steady growth of skills, self-discipline, and self-confidence.

Our students receive free recording studio time to get their hands on state-of-the-art music equipment they might not have been able to access, allowing them to produce their own work and build a portfolio.

This hands-on studio experience is complemented by visits from special guests and career veterans offering free expert workshops to our students in their fields of expertise.

This learning is reinforced in a more personal way through a professional mentorship program that matches students with industry veterans.

When students have wings to fly, we help them secure industry employment through job coaching. Once they graduate from our program, we match our successful students with job opportunities.

Scan of 501(c)(3) status letterMessage from Bruce Tambling:I founded the Music Tech Foundation because I witnessed first-hand the need for a more diverse workforce within the technical music and media production fields. As an award winning musician, producer, audio engineer, composer, video editor and teacher who has had the pleasure of working for major record labels such as Motown, Windham Hill, Sony, BMG, Atlantic, Tommy Boy, Warner Brothers, I often observed that many people of all ages and backgrounds are interested in the technical skills required to work in the music and media production industry. Since most music and video production learning takes place through hands-on training and mentorship, we need spaces where students can learn the skills required. At the Music Tech Foundation, we are dedicated to giving people the opportunity to learn from professionals who have been in the music and media production business for decades and get mentored by them. Students will also receive free recording studio time to get hands-on experience to produce their own work and build a portfolio. We will also have special guests and career veterans offering free workshops to our students in their fields of expertise. These efforts will be followed by job placement. Once they graduate from our program, my team and I will match our successful students with potential job opportunities by recommending them for internships or entry-level positions within the music and entertainment industry. Hence, we are taking the first step in creating a diverse workforce for technical careers in the music and media production fields. Our long-term goal is to stream all our workshops and classes online so that young individuals and adults who are interested in learning how to become music technicians or media producers can get the education they need on an international scale. I’m a full-time tenured faculty, and the Co-Director of the Music Technology Department at Foothill College in California and bring decades of teaching experience to the Music Tech Foundation.
